What comes to mind when you think of Patagonia? For people who have even heard of this region which includes geography in the southernmost part of Chile and Argentina, their first though usually goes to trekking or hiking. And certainly, it is a premiere destination for hiking and trekking, but we learned during our recent trip to Patagonia with Natural Habitat Adventures, that it is so much more!
During our trip, which was wildlife focused, we explored several distinct ecosystems in two separate countries. There is truly something for everyone in Patagonia. The first gateways to Patagonia are generally the world class cities of Buenos Areas, Argentina or Santiago, Chile. From there, accessing this wilderness area usually requires more flights to the gateways to the various eco systems you can explore, Glaciers, Lakes, Steppe Lands or Plains, and Ocean Fjords. In these ecosystems there are options to trek, yes, but also, biking, horseback riding, ocean cruises, wildlife/bird watching, fishing, skiing, rock climbing kayaking, and rafting.
