Seattlites might not be used to 70 degree sunny weather in April. Maybe that explains why these outdoorsy folks kept falling at the feet of my super hero husband all weekend? But while visiting this fair city on an unusually fair weekend, it seemed that Seattle residents released early from their gloomy, rainy and snowy winter needed a native New Englander to save them from themselves!

A business trip and direct affordable "off season" Jet Blue flights out of Boston led us to spend a last minute weekend to the Emerald City and visit life long friends (we don't use the term "old friends" anymore, it's hitting a little to close to home!) Again, with flexibility, I like to check AirFareWatchdog for good last minute deals. You can sign up for "alerts" for your home airport and reliably get great prices for at least a few interesting destinations each week. If the airfare is low, usually because it's a low or shoulder season in that city with no major events or conventions planned, you can also find plenty of reasonable hotel rates or AirBNB availability.
Our trip included a bike tour with Seattle Cycling Tours We hadn't been out 15 minutes before an older gentleman toddled past us on a cane with a ball cap over a big bloodied bandage wrapped completely around his head. We bid him good day and continued our discussion about the building boom in Seattle astride our bikes, when he suddenly went "boom" onto the side walk. We immediately rushed to his aid, calling 911 (who replied "oh, we just patched him up, did he fall again?") The gentleman had refused to be transported to the hospital after his first tumble, and he was trying to get up and go again, but he clearly was in no condition to go off on his own. Jeff, kindly encouraged the fellow to stay down until the rescue squad could respond...again. With the elderly fellow in the good hands of the real Seattle super heroes, Super Jeff hopped back on his bike and we continued our tour. This was just the first of many saves...with people stumbling off sidewalks and falling off their bikes at his feet all weekend. Our guide explained this might be a confluence of Seattle's reputation for kindness to hard to treat homeless and that we had arrived on April 1st, the same day as their monthly checks. However this hasn't discouraged Jeff from being fitted for a cape to better fit his new persona!
When we weren't saving Seattle, we were enjoying a weekend of art and outdoor activity in Seattle. And eating, we can't forget the cherry pie a la mode!
